If you like cult Japanese films, chances are that you love Sion Sono. After all, who could forget his 4-hour masterpiece Love Exposure? I actually love every one of his films (except Tokyo Tribe, which is too manic for my liking). So it’s a good day when we get to see the first teaser for another new film from the director and hear that he plans to release a staggering 6 films in 2015!
Just a couple of weeks ago, the teaser for Sono’s Love and Peace was released. Now the first teaser for another one of his new films has surfaced on YouTube. It is called Shinjuku Swan and is based on the long-running manga by Ken Wakui about an unemployed young man who recruits women to work in Tokyo’s biggest red-light district. The film stars Go Ayano, Erika Sawajiri, Takayuki Yamada and Yusuke Iseya.
The most exciting news for me as a Sono fan is that Love And Peace and Shinjuku Swan are just two of the films that the prolific director is planning to release this year. A third, titled Hisohiso Boshi, is based on the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Details for the other three are not yet available, but 6 films in a year? That’s just amazing.
